Iowa Infertility Prevention Project Update   Printable version

Course Handouts

Health professionals and educators from across Iowa meet each year over the Iowa Communications Network (ICN) for an update about the Iowa Infertility Prevention Project (IIPP) and emerging issues with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

"The Iowa Infertility Prevention Project is an important public health program for our state," says Colleen Bornmueller, Iowa Infertility Prevention Project Coordinator for the Family Planning Council of Iowa. Every year, we provide screening for Chlamydia to thousands of women and their partners who otherwise might not have been tested. According to CDC, 75 percent of women and 50 percent of men with Chlamydia infections are asymptomatic; they are not aware of their infections and do not seek health care. This allows for the spread of the disease and can lead to severe and costly reproductive health problems if left untreated."

2008 Program Description
To review emerging issues regarding the Infertility Prevention Project and STDs in Iowa. Also, to help participants realize the value of providing treatment and re-screening for patients and their partners in a variety of health care settings.
